Comic-Con International is pleased to announce that because of returned/cancelled badges we will once again be able to offer those badges for resale. This year we have also reduced the allotment of reserved badges for certain departments. Comic-Con has decided to add these badges to the resale for our attendees. We currently have several thousand single day badges available for resale, only 3,100 of which are Saturday badges. 4-Day badges are sold out.

Due to the very limited number of badges available and our vendor EPIC Registration being focused on coordinating onsite registration, the Comic-Con 2013 badge resale will be conducted utilizing a random drawing.

To enter the Comic-Con 2013 Resale Drawing, login to your Member ID account now and click the blue notice that says “Click Here to Enter a Drawing to be Eligible for the Comic-Con 2013 Badge Resale!”

The drawing entry period will remain open for 48 hours only, and will close June 12, 2013 at 10:59:59 AM Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). Late entries will not be accepted.

You must have a valid and confirmed Comic-Con Member ID to enter the drawing.
Anyone who has already registered for or purchased a 4-Day badge (with or without Preview Night) or a single day Saturday badge will not be eligible to enter the drawing.

Those selected to participate in the Comic-Con 2013 badge resale may purchase their own badges, as well as badges for one additional guest. You may purchase for any guest who has a confirmed Member ID (as of June 7, 2013) and does not have a 4-Day badge (with or without Preview Night) or a single day Saturday badge. Your guest does not need to be selected from the drawing pool to be eligible to purchase.

Comic-Con will notify everyone who is selected to participate by email on or before June 17, 2013.

Sincerely,

Attendee Registration
Comic-Con International

Although we weren’t able to personally make it out to Rotofugi to attend the Squadt Assembly installation, we were fortunate to have some friends there who were able to snap us some pics. For those who aren’t familiar with the show, it’s arguably one of the coolest shows I’ve ever heard of. The idea is this: Ferg has made his iconic Squadt figure available in an array of body types, and a multitude of clothing and weapon choices. This is basically like build a bear….but infinitely more bad-ass.
Collect and Destroy (CAD) members and Squadt enthusiasts were lined up as early as 2am to receive a line ticket at 11am and insure that all of their desired options would still be available. These folks were in for a treat, because in addition to being able to buy the gallery exclusive Glow in the Dark Orange Body, and an additional build, there were 12 “Built by Ferg” pieces that were also available. Thanks to our buddies CAD buddies GregM, MikeyK, and LonerStoner for shooting us some snaps of the Built by Ferg Pieces shown below. I’m still kicking myself that I couldn’t make it to the opening cause it looks like it was a BLAST!!!

For those who are in or near Chicago, the show is up until April 28th if you would like to go check it out.

you can hit Roto @rotofugi and Ferg @fergbag

When I initially spoke to the award winning sneaker customizer Mache about working on some custom dunks for me, I had no real idea of what to expect, except that he would knock it out of the park. I was listening to Discovery at the time, so I asked him to use a Daft Punk theme. I just got these bad boys in last week and WOW! These are my 1st pair of custom sneakers and I definitely am off to a good start.

The shoes are two different colors to represent the masks of the dynamic electronic music duo. The right one is gold-tone and features the Daft Punk logo from their album prominently on the back of the shoe. The left one is silver-tone and features a very cool left and right mash-up of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter’s famous helmets, along with shimmering silver laces.

I’m very pleased with these and honestly can’t decide if i’m going to pound the pavement with them, or just keep them pristine and stare at them. Feel free to leave a comment on what you think I should do.

Thanks again Mache!

The blademaster Carson Catlin is at it again. This time he has turned his attention to the iconic Mario and Luigi to create these reticulated masterpieces. He had this to say:
I was recently asked if I would participate in the “Game on”  group show at 1AM SF.

I jumped at the opportunity and whipped up these two guys.

brothers is a reticulated Mario and Luigi.

They will retail for $500 a piece or you can get both for $900.

Thanks again for the continued support.

Carson just sent over some shots of his latest custom, which is based on ThreeA’s Bambaboss figure. The custom is titled Bambabadass (try saying THAT three times real fast), and the name sure is fitting.
Why does every platform that gets the CC treatment look so cool?!?! Here’s what he had to say
Hello!
Just finished another commission and I thought I would share.Bombabadass
I was asked a few months back if I was interested in doing a custom based on the Bombaboss. I love doing new platforms so I was super eager to make this happen.

I went with a gradient interior instead of the solid color I usually use. Its most noticeable on the bubbly smoke section on his back. The exterior was painted with a blue color scheme to compliment the interior. Overall I am very happy with how it turned out and I’m sad to see this one go.

Keep an eye on my instagram to see other works in progress. Lots of exciting things in the future.

Thank you for your time!

btw peeked at your instagram Carson….LOVING the KR mascot set

The show’s opening reception officially started at 8:00pm and by 8:30 Art Whino was absolutely packed!!! The cupcakes were a hit and the PBR was flowing, while DJ Inkognito set the tone with his mixing skills.

Dr. D’Cruz was on hand and let the show-goers know about his experiences working overseas with Doctors Without Borders in Chad.
Show pictures are below. Inquiries on any remaining pieces can be directed to info@artwhino.com and 20% of the purchase price will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.

You can also make tax-deductible donations here: http://www.razoo.com/story/Art-Without-Borders

Special Thanks to Dessert Fantasies for the yummy cupcakes!

We just got our hands on some new pics of Carson Catlin’s final product for the art without Borders Show, and this one is a beauty. He’s what Carson had to say:

All Stitched Up was created for the “Art Without Borders” show being put on by Art Whino. The challenge was to create something based on a medical theme. My choice was to use the 8″ dunny platform with the iconic red cross on its head. The cross was extracted along with all the other pieces. A coat of red paint inside with a bright white exterior followed along with a medical theme. To tie it all together I used red thread and reattached the red cross from earlier. One my favorite pieces. It will retail at $600.00 USD (a portion of the proceeds will go to Doctors Without Boarders) at Art Whino on February 23rd.
For more info please go to:

Thank you for your consideration.

This piece is really a treat to look at, and it fits the theme of the show perfectly. I’m really looking forward to seeing it in person.

The newest Kidrobot Mascot comes as somewhat of a surprise as it is a tribute piece. Major Lazer is a successful collaborative project between award winning producers Diplo and Switch. With their infectious reggae-fusion/dancehall/electronic house sound, crazy music videos, and blond mowhawked hype man Skerrit Bwoy the group has been a huge success.

The Major Lazer Mascot is based on the cartoon figure which often appears in their videos.

Major Lazer – Hold The Line

Major Lazer – Pon De Floor (Audio only…if you can find it, the video is slightly NSFW) If this track sounds familiar its because Beyonce sampled it for her hit track “Run the World (Girls).

Major Lazer – Keep it Going Louder

Here’s what the Kidrobot Kronicle had to say about the release.

Guns don’t kill people… lazers do.

1984: the Olympic Games are held in LA, President Reagan runs for re-election, the AIDS epidemic runs rampant, and underneath it all, the secret Zombie War rages. One secret soldier is rescued from the fray, his arm gone, but his spirit strong. He is given an experimental lazer prosthetic and hired by the CIA to continue his fight against the forces of evil. He fronts as a dancehall nightclub owner from Trinidad, though in truth, he is a badass Jamaican keeping the world safe from vampires and monsters, while partying hard and tweeting.

Major Lazer Kidrobot is an 7-inch vinyl homage to the renegade soldier turned CIA operative. A collaborative project of the Grammy nominated producer Diplo and DJ Switch, Major Lazer debuted with the album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do in 2009, followed by Lazers Never Die in 2010. A new album, titled Free the Universe, featuring Diplo as the solo executive producer, is out February 2013. Major Lazer Kidrobot has a uniquely sculpted head and lazer arm to properly capture his eighties commando style and signature prosthetic. The real Major Lazer is hitting the road 2/28 for a 43 city world  headlining tour beginning in Toronto.

Retailing for $50 US, this ‘bot hits the stage February 19 at Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com, and select retailers worldwide.

From the Mascot thread on the Kidrobot forums, it looks like not everyone is feeling this release, but I am since I have enjoyed their music for years. While we are at it, I’m also hoping for a Daft Punk Mascot release one day also!

The Dynamic Duo of Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk, who form Coarse, are at it again. Fresh of their successful show at Rotofugi, Coarse will be at the Thailand Toy Expo from January 10-13, 2013. It is not yet clear whether Coarse will be displaying pieces from the Rotofugi show, displaying new pieces, or if there will be exclusive figures for sale. All we can do at this point is to speculate based on this image which popped up on their Facebook page recently:

Coarse_our_nightmares

This picture features a sweet sketch of the new characters Void and Fever sleeping peacefully, and if nothing else, I’m hoping that this image will be available as a poster or print.

Looking forward to seeing what Coarse has up their sleeves for the Thailand Toy Expo!

In a day and age where the demand for physical media is waning rapidly, I happened to run across a company who is specializing in special re-issues of classic vinyl, CD, and cassettes (yes cassettes). That’s actually how I found them. I have been searching for a copy of Raekwon’s Only Built for Cuban Links cassette (which is known simple as the purple tape since it was made of clear purple plastic), ever since I let my good buddy DJ Inkognito (@djinkognito) borrow it and never got it back (which to this day he still claims is untrue, but I know better than that). I randomly saw a post on the Kidrobot forums referring to the purple tape and thought, it can’t be! But it was! And it was on ebay in a special deluxe case made out of mahogany?! HOW DID I MISS THIS?! After I had recovered, I went to the site that created the re-issue and begged them to sell me one of the now sold out sets…a broken or damaged one…a sample one…anything! I guess I wasn’t the only one hitting up Get On Down Records with this request, because they had a few left over which they released online to those who had missed out. This second sale crashed their server. I missed out again, but during this I discovered their site. WOW. They had:

Albums released on USB drive that look like turntable needles

Deluxe Versions of the GZA’s Liquid sword CD that have a chess set included!

Fat Boys LPs that look like a pizza, and come in a pizza box!

A newly released Nas Illmatic Set!

A Set of 45 rpm singles from the Rojac/Tay-ster catalog in an alligator textured case

to name a few…..

If you like music, and appreciate the old days of vinyl cassettes and CD’s I would suggest you check out http://www.getondown.com
