For September, the good folks at NikeID are offering the interesting option of reflective synthetic. From the images on the NikeID Facebook page, it looks like customers will be able to select different colors of reflective material….which is DEFINITELY more exciting than what they have made available for the last few months. If you would like to customize your own pair head over to the NikeID site on September 1. Remember, they will only be available in limited quantities, so act fast if you want them!

August is here, and now its time for the next installment of NikeID’s AF1 options. For the month of August, the Nike AF1 ID features Breathable Mesh, Pearlized Patent and Metallic Leathers.

Although they are offering three material choices, I’m not really that blown away by any of them. Hopefully they arent losing steam and have some fantastic options in store for the remaining few months of the year. Frankly im hopinng for a super option pack in December, where you can use all of the materials that have been offered thus far.

They are still available in limited quantities at NikeID.

The second installment of the AF1 Year of the Dragon is currently scheduled for a June 23rd, 2012 release at select retailers. The shoe is a blend of in-your-face colors and subtle dragon imagery. Nike gives more insight into the design below:

Inspired by the concept of ‘dragon’, this low top features a design that blends dragon boat imagery with traditional Chinese dragon iconography. The special edition celebrates the 30th anniversary of this classic design.

The overall design echoes that of a dragon boat, evoking a red boat floating on a blue lake, with the golden Swoosh emphasizing the nobility and majesty of the dragon. The character for ‘dragon’ in ancient oracle bone script on the heel counter, pearl dubrets with the Roman numerals “XXX”, and the premium aglets.

The multi-colored cloud pattern on the cushion, representing good fortune.

The shoe’s tongue top uses the ‘dragon in clouds’ pattern, identical to the Year of the Dragon Air Force 1 from Spring.

These are probably the 1st AF1′s that I’ve been excited about in a while, so hopefully one of my go-to retailers will be getting their hands on these.

April AF1 ID Release: Safari Print

NikeID allows customers to customize and personalize a wide variety of sneakers. The classic Air Force 1 sneaker is not one of the regularly available models. If you would like to design your own there are three options currently available to you:

1. Commission a pair from a sneaker customizer
2. Make an appointment to go to the Nike Design Studio located at 21 Mercer in NY, and pay them $800 to have access to every premium material Nike has ever used.
3. Wait for NikeID to have a limited AF1 release <——– (the cost effective option)

In the past, the only option that existed for most people was the 1st one. Initially, Nike would only invite VIPs to their studio 255 (which was the predecessor to the current design studios), and give them the privilege of designing their own Air Force 1. In 2007 Nike started sending invites to select members of the general public, to create their own Air Force 1s online. Although I didn’t receive an invite, I managed to secure one through eBay and was able to participate.

Now, no invites are needed, and every now and then NikeID will sell a limited number of the AF1s. They recently offered a single premium material in their last few releases, with the current trend this year being a new material each month (wool in January, elephant print in February, and a tennis ball material in March).

On April 1st, NikeID will be offering a limited amount of Air Force 1s (both high and low tops), and will allow customers to use their safari print material.

If you would like a pair, follow @nikeid for the link when they drop, and don’t dawdle, because these will go FAST.

Bonus: Since we all love to see pics of sneakers, these are the AF1s I designed from the initial 2007 release

These are the AF1s I designed from the 2011 release

On the heels (pun intended) of his Nike/Converse shoe pillow release, Lou Pimentel announced yesterday, that his Nike Dunk design as well as his TMNT contribution for the Gag me with a Toon 4 show (currently at the WWA gallery) are now available for sale in print form.  So here is the information you need to know if you are interested in buying them.

Size: Both prints are available in four different sizes; 4”x6”, 5”x7”, 8”x10”, 18”x24”

Ed. Size: Both prints are open runs

Cost: $20, $22, $50, $150 depending on size

Where to buy:  Prints are currently available at printsonwood.com

Honestly, when it comes to print collecting I normally prefer more limited edition pieces and/or buying direct from the artist.  But I think I may need to make an exception for the TMNT “One is the Loneliest Number” release.  Not only is Raphael my favorite turtle but Lou’s watercolor work is fantastic in this piece.

Definitely check them out as well as Lou Pimentel’s work and his twitter!!

KOZIK x Nike SB Dunk Hi

If you are reading this blog because you know me, then you know that I like sneakers a lot more than most people do. If you are reading this because you are into vinyl toys and art, then you have probably heard of Frank Kozik. Those relatively new to the scene know him from his satirical vinyl busts of well-known political figures or possibly his Labbit figures produced by Kidrobot, those more seasoned in the game know of his work with groups in the rock world such as Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili peppers, Pearl Jam, and the Stone Temple Pilots, to name a few.  Well this is one of those grand occasions where my two worlds collide. Kozik has teamed with Nike SB to create this month’s quickstrike dunk hi, dubbed the Kozik’s (all Nike dunk SBs have a nickname…sometimes they don’t make sense, sometimes they do). The dunks feature multiple shades of dark green, green metal eyelets, and an orange sockliner. The greens fit right in with some of Frank Kozik’s more popular works, which feature a military theme. If you want the release date on these, I can’t help you. Nike SBs only have a release month: so its up to your local skate/boardshop to announce when they will be releasing them. I’m hoping for a March or April release so that I can pound the pavement with these this summer. Maybe even wear em to SDCC and bump into Kozik.
