When I initially spoke to the award winning sneaker customizer Mache about working on some custom dunks for me, I had no real idea of what to expect, except that he would knock it out of the park. I was listening to Discovery at the time, so I asked him to use a Daft Punk theme. I just got these bad boys in last week and WOW! These are my 1st pair of custom sneakers and I definitely am off to a good start.

The shoes are two different colors to represent the masks of the dynamic electronic music duo. The right one is gold-tone and features the Daft Punk logo from their album prominently on the back of the shoe. The left one is silver-tone and features a very cool left and right mash-up of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter’s famous helmets, along with shimmering silver laces.

I’m very pleased with these and honestly can’t decide if i’m going to pound the pavement with them, or just keep them pristine and stare at them. Feel free to leave a comment on what you think I should do.

Thanks again Mache!

BAIT’s grand opening party was held on Oct. 24th at their new store in SoCal at 7pm. In conjunction with the grand openeing, the celebration was also to honor Kidrobot’s 10th anniversary. The event was invite only, but we were fortunate that our friend the toy-trooper, Chenreaction, was able to attend and serve as our R3porter. He grabbed a ton of pics and gave me a few particulars on the event:

  • Non alcoholic drinks were provided for free
  • And hotdog and LA-famous kogi food truck was onsite to take care your tummy.
  • Friends/Music/cool apparel and designer toys/ cool decors
  • Special discounts were given to the goers for that night only to cop so fresh stuff before taking off.
  • Also a gift goodie bag was handed out to each goer when leaving.
  • Contains latest bait cap/shirt/stickers/a blind box

Woah! A goodie bag?! I didn’t see that in the pics he sent so I asked for some, which he sent over. If any of that doesn’t fit you, you know who to send it to….

Thanks again to Chenreaction for attending and giving us the inside look at the opening party.

Enjoy the pics!

August is here, and now its time for the next installment of NikeID’s AF1 options. For the month of August, the Nike AF1 ID features Breathable Mesh, Pearlized Patent and Metallic Leathers.

Although they are offering three material choices, I’m not really that blown away by any of them. Hopefully they arent losing steam and have some fantastic options in store for the remaining few months of the year. Frankly im hopinng for a super option pack in December, where you can use all of the materials that have been offered thus far.

They are still available in limited quantities at NikeID.

Ronnie Fieg and the good folks at Kith are at it again with another stellar collaboration. These New Balance drop Friday June 22nd, and feature a solid color-palate of blues and greys. The release will also coincide with the release of the Kith x New Balance Apparel Capsule Collection. Kith’s blog can tell it better than I can so….

Here it is, the exclusive Ronnie Fieg x New Balance “Steel Blue” 999 sneakers. The final result is made with a mixed premium nubuck, pigskin suede and leather accented upper inspired by the popular New Balance 1300CL model. Details feature a debossed heel and tongue with New Balance branding, a soft leather tongue, ABZORB cushioning, “Just Us” written on the eyelets and the Kith logo imprinted on the insoles. Each pair comes with a Kith/New Balance leather hangtag and three pairs of laces in white, grey and ice. The release will be available in limited quantities at Kith Manhattan, Kith Brooklyn and online at KithNYC.com for $130 USD.

This Friday will also mark the release of the Kith x New Balance apparel capsule collection, which features hoodies, crewnecks, sweat shorts and sweatpants. Each piece is handmade in New York City using grey and blue french terry fabrics and includes Kith x New Balance branding, leather tagging and drawstring tightening on the shorts and pants. Check out the apparel lookbook here.

To mark the special release Kith NYC will have 100 handmade wooden boxes available on a first come first serve basis at both Kith NYC locations. The wooden box pack will be priced at $290 USD and contain the 999 “Steel Blue” shoes, the hoodie and the sweat shorts from the limited edition Kith x New Balance handsewn capsule collection. 50 boxes will be at Kith Manhattan and 50 boxes will be at Kith Brooklyn. The Sweatpants and Crewneck are priced at $90 USD each while the Hoodie and Sweat Shorts are only available in the limited box set.

Everything is produced in limited numbers and will be available for purchase Friday, June 22nd at 11am EST.

After looking at the pics, I get flashbacks of the classic New balance 1300’s that were popular while I was in High School many moons ago (and still are). Apparently this was no coincidence I learned after reading a feature article on the upcoming release in the latest edition of Sneaker Freaker Magazine.

As with most things we report on…if you want a pair be in line early, or be on a fast internet connection. So good luck…and since they release on Ronnie’s b-day we at N3rdlink wish you a pre-happy b-day Ronnie!

The second installment of the AF1 Year of the Dragon is currently scheduled for a June 23rd, 2012 release at select retailers. The shoe is a blend of in-your-face colors and subtle dragon imagery. Nike gives more insight into the design below:

Inspired by the concept of ‘dragon’, this low top features a design that blends dragon boat imagery with traditional Chinese dragon iconography. The special edition celebrates the 30th anniversary of this classic design.

The overall design echoes that of a dragon boat, evoking a red boat floating on a blue lake, with the golden Swoosh emphasizing the nobility and majesty of the dragon. The character for ‘dragon’ in ancient oracle bone script on the heel counter, pearl dubrets with the Roman numerals “XXX”, and the premium aglets.

The multi-colored cloud pattern on the cushion, representing good fortune.

The shoe’s tongue top uses the ‘dragon in clouds’ pattern, identical to the Year of the Dragon Air Force 1 from Spring.

These are probably the 1st AF1’s that I’ve been excited about in a while, so hopefully one of my go-to retailers will be getting their hands on these.

Downtown Locker Room (DTLR) announced that they would only be selling the Yeezy 2’s from their Senator Square location in DC. According to their twitter (@DTLR) EVERYONE who was in line at 7:30am on 6/9 would receive a raffle ticket, for a chance to purchase one of the pairs that they had available. Furthermore, they would have approximately 50 pairs, and a strong police presence… not bad. Now i’m too old to deal with all this new camping mess… but a raffle I can do. Alarm went off at 5am, but I quickly decided that there was really no need to get there too early like in the days of old… so I re-set it and went back to sleep. Woke up a little later, then me and wifey drove on down to the spot. Now after hearing all of the madness that went down during various Foamposite Galaxy releases all up and down the East Coast, I was pleased to see how organized this release was. Don’t get me wrong, there were a TON of people there (about 1000), but it was organized, and orderly. The line snaked around the building then up the bridge next to the store.

True to their word, DTLR gave a ticket to everyone, then started calling off numbers. As great as the odds were, they weren’t in my favor, so currently i’m (like their 400K other followers) fanatically monitoring @nikestore for the random online drop.  Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!

Props to DTLR for running an extremely well thought out and safe release. If you aren’t already, follow them at @DTLR

BTW if anyone happens to score, please shoot us a ton of pics at n3rdlink@gmail.com.
